Infamously shy and not known to be acrobatic, the Irrawaddy dolphin, or Orcaella brevirostris, is not as visible as its famous flamboyant bottlenose cousin. It rarely breaches, hardly flicks its tail above water, and when it surfaces to breathe its head remains underwater. And it certainly never rides the bows of any ships, performing acrobatic feats to the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of the customers. |
