He is a pioneer in the world of underwater photography, whose work is synonymous with artistic images of seals, rays, sharks, turtles, and the world's most colourful reefs. If you're an underwater photographer and follow the greats, you know his name: David Doubilet.
In addition to his contributions to the world of photography, he's a conservationist whose work raises awareness of the need for conservation of the worldís oceans, lakes, and rivers. Since 1971 he has photographed more than 60 stories for National Geographic magazine, for which he is currently a contributing photographer-in-residence. He has been a diver for so many years that, as recognition of his time spent in the world's oceans, a reef in Papua New Guinea bears his name: Doubilet Reef.
