Each year as the Singapore International Film Festival (SIFF) rolls around, legions of loyal followers and fi lm enthusiasts fl ock to its screenings in search of thought-provoking and diverse fi lms from the world over –
films that off er more than the average face-value entertainment of blockbusters, that broaden minds and alter perspectives; films that are as introspective as they are evocative. This year's Festival is no exception, with over 200 fi lms from 40 countries serving its line up. As the Singapore International Film Festival turns 21 this year, its coming of age promises yet another year of award-winning fi lms, workshops and other related activities.
Since its inception in 1987, the annual fi lm event has gone from strength to strength, building a reputation with fi lm critics, audiences and buyers alike in Southeast Asia. Recognised for its focus on Asian Cinema and promotion of neglected Southeast Asian fi lms, the Singapore International Film Festival has consistently brought forth a strong selection of documentaries and world cinema, serving not only as a platform for new Singapore fi lms, but also as a window to Southeast Asian fi lms.
