Whether aboard a helicopter dangling in a harness with his still camera or shooting acrobatic aerial film from a Turkish fighter jet, Laurie K. Gilbert assures us emphatically, "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong." Yet with a 30-year career shooting material for feature films, commercials, documentaries, television drama and corporate communication productions, this is one thrill-seeker who is not about to allow the hazards inherent in his craft dampen his enthusiasm.
Accredited by the Society of Operating Cameramen in Hollywood, Gilbert is a freelance motion picture cinematographer and stills photographer who has operated from residential bases in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and soon also Malaysia. Hailing from Ireland, he won the first Royal Scholarship to train in film production at the London International Film School, and his work has since taken him to nearly 50 countries.
