When the adrenaline rush dissipates
The Japanese judo legend's career has been remarkable: 203
consecutive wins, an Olympic gold and four world championships.
Until his retirement in 1985, Yasuhiro Yamashita remained
undefeated. Remaining relevant through a variety of activities, based
on the same principles that made him one of judo’s greatest heroes,
ASIAN Geographic visits Yamashita in Japan to chat with this legend

The religious source of martial arts

Asia's antediluvian distractions
The ancient artisans who created game boards carved them in
wood, etched or drew them on stone and slate, sewed them into
fabric, and even wove them into baskets. Memories or personal
possessions of travellers would serve to establish a game in a new
culture. Some of these ancient games survived only in or near
the area in which they were introduced, while others were carried
around the world and are still played today.

Uniting the world through sports
Sport has a unique power to attract, mobilise and inspire. By its
very nature, sport is about participation. It is about inclusion
and citizenship. It stands for human values such as respect for
the opponent, acceptance of binding rules, teamwork and
fairness.
