• Small primary forest herb with black berries

native to Singapore and extending to Johor,

Peninsular Malaysia

• Considered Critically Endangered (IUCN

Red List)

• Currently, only a single population is known

in Singapore in the Bukit Timah Nature

Reserve

2. ZINGIBER SINGAPURENSE

• Ginger species native/endemic to Singapore

• Considered Critically Endangered

(IUCN Red List)

• In 2013, the ginger (3 populations) was

found within patches of primary and mature

secondary forest in the Central Catchment

Nature Reserve. Flowering plants were found

in May 2014

3. SCOLOPIA MACROPHYLLA

• Native to Singapore – only the single tree at Coney Island

is currently known

• The only species of Scolopia tree that occurs in Singapore

• Species ranges from Indochina, Southern Thailand,

Peninsula Malaya and Borneo to Java

4. BROMHEADIA ALTICOLA

• Rediscovered by NParks staff in the Mandai forest in 2011 after

an intense storm

• Singapore’s native orchid species number fewer than 230, with

more than 75 percent of these listed in the Singapore Red Data

Book as Nationally Extinct (not recorded in Singapore’s forests

for more than 30 years) – one of these is the Bromheadia

alticola

5. DISCHIDIA HIRSUTA

• Thought to be extinct, as the species was

last collected from Singapore in 1903 from

the Woodlands area
